The Old Bexhillians Walking Football Club have always been associated with local charities, families and individuals requiring assistance.
And this year the fundraising by the club has turned its attention once again to Warming up the Homeless and a new charity to the club, The 1066 Pink Ladies.
The club committee organised a charity music night at the Wheatsheaf Inn, Little Common, and £400 was raised for the two charities.
The Pink Ladies are a self-funding charity offering support to men and woman in their journeys with breast cancer while WUH is a frontline organisation supporting homeless people on the south-east coast.
OBs team player Nick Gardner recently undertook The South Downs Way Charity Walk for ANDYSMANSCLUB – a men`s suicide prevention charity offering free to attend peer-to-peer support groups across the U.K. and online and he raised over £1500 for the cause.
The club was sad to lose one of its own – Ian Lambert – who sadly passed recently and was a committed session player and renowned for his baking prowess – the fruits of his labours enjoyed by walking footballers over the years and next year at Little Common Recreation park in the summer the Rock Cake Cup will be contested at some stage as a tribute to popular Ian.
Plans are well on course for the club’s in-house band Coast Road to perform at the Wheatsheaf on New Year’s Eve when a good turn out is very likely judging by their experience so far in their musical journey.
The club will be holding a large WF event next July with teams from the Sussex area competing and a golf day and other social events are well in the planning stage.
