BILLERICAY Town’s over 40s women’s walking football team have worked their way through to the national finals.
Billericay impressed in the regional round, held at Parsloes Park in Dagenham.
And Billericay Town manager Debbie Leitch was full of praise for her squad following their success.

“Every single player stepped up and played their part,” said Leitch.
“With 11 players in the squad, it was tough to keep shuffling the pack, but it paid off in the end.

“There were a few hairy moments, and a token controversial penalty shoot-out in the final but we held our nerve and came through to win.
“I’d like to thank all the players for their grit and determination to become the best team on the day.
“We’re looking forward to the next level at St George’s – win or lose, it’ll be a fantastic experience for everyone involved. Bring it on!”
Essex County FA Football Development Officer Emma Burden was also delighted by Town’s displays.
“I’m so thrilled for Billericay,” said Burden.
“This group has grown and grown over the last few years, and what started out as a small Just Play women’s group is now a hive of activity every Monday night at Billericay Town.
“This is a well-deserved testament to all the hard work that has gone into this group from the players, coaches and backroom staff! Well done everyone and good luck in the next round.”
