On Wednesday, September 17, Sligo Rovers will be hosting a Walking Football blitz at the Showgrounds with teams from Sligo, Leitrim, Westmeath, Dublin and Kildare due to take part.
Walking Football is a sport that is becoming more popular across the region and indeed the country with new clubs and groups being established regularly. It’s a sport that is primarily aimed at male and female players aged 55 and over and is designed to help promote improved physical activity in that cohort of people…
One of the main supporters of the development of Walking Football as a popular activity is the organisation Age and Opportunity and they are partnering with Sligo Rovers for the blitz on the 17th.
Sligo Rovers FSR Officer Jamie Murphy said: “We are delighted to be able to host the blitz and are looking forward to welcoming teams and players from across the country on the day. Events like this are a core part of the work we do at the Showgrounds in trying to make sure that the club is as welcoming and inclusive a place as possible. While the blitz is full we would encourage people to get involved with a Walking Football group in their community or look into setting one up. Its a fantastic way to keep active and meet new people.”
