Twenty-one Louth groups receive €6,530 to fund physical activity for older people
Twenty-one community groups across Louth are celebrating today as Age and Opportunity announced €6,530 in funding to support physical activity among older people in the county.
The grants come as part of the Age and Opportunity Active National Grant Scheme, a joint initiative with Sport Ireland, aimed at encouraging older adults to stay active and socially connected through sport and recreation. This year’s scheme is providing a total of €300,000 to 988 groups nationwide, with almost €8 million awarded to date since the programme began.

The local groups, ranging from Active Retirement Groups, ICAs, Men’s/Women’s Sheds, Physical Activity Leaders (PALs), care settings and other sports and social groups, will use the funding to run activities such as kurling, tai chi, aqua aerobics, pickleball, walking football and more.
