WINSFORD Town Over 50s walking football team will be representing Cheshire in a national competition this summer.
This is after the team finished top of the table after two rounds to win the Cheshire Super Cup on their debut appearance, giving Winsford the rights to progress to the Prostate Cancer UK Walking Football League Alliance League Champions Cup Finals day at Coleshill Town FC, Warwickshire, on Sunday, July 27.
Winsford dominated proceedings in the second round at Moss Farm last week, with four wins and a draw leaving them top of the ladder a point ahead of Neston Nomads and Nantwich.
This was quite a turnaround, because Winsford were in fourth place after the first round in December as a result of one win, three draws and one loss from their five matches.
Defence was a strong point, only conceding two goals in total.
Macclesfield, Middlewich Town and Northwich were the other three teams invited to take part in the six-a-side event, with matches being 15 minutes long.
