A Habrough community group that has raised an incredible £40,000 for local charities and people in need is gearing up to celebrate its 10th anniversary – and hopes to exceed the £40,000 mark for the special occasion.
The Habrough League of Gentlemen was set up as a social club in 2014, operating from the village pub, The Station Inn. Shortly after its establishment, its members decided to operate as a charitable organisation to help local charities and people in need.
Ten years on, and the group is made up of 25 active members. Once a month, they meet up at the pub, where they pay a £5 monthly sum which is then put into a pot to be distributed to local charities and causes.
On Sunday, August 25, the Habrough League of Gentlemen will be celebrating its 10th anniversary with a charity walking football match against the Grimsby Ancient Mariners outside The Station Inn, before a get-together within the pub where anyone is welcome.
Two representatives from local charities will be attending the special event where they will receive donations from the Habrough League of Gentlemen, to take the total amount of their donations over the last decade to more than £40,000.
