Club founder Vinnette Campbell: “I decided that I wanted to start up a club specifically for women of colour because they’re underrepresented in a lot of walking football clubs and in professional women’s football.”
VISIONARY Vinnette Campbell, together with a committed, cohesive group of women of colour all over the age of 40, are the driving force behind Steppers Women of Colour – the first walking football club for women of a diverse background.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, plenty of people across many communities have been impacted in various ways. It was this that inspired Vinnette to set up Steppers, who focus on fun and fitness, while encouraging women of colour to take up walking football.
The aim is to help her community recover from the physical and mental impacts of COIVD-19 by getting involved with the sport. Having formed in April 2021, the women meet every Sunday morning to play in Finsbury Park, London.
