GFC established a Walking Football Section in December 2020. A few training sessions were held before lockdown struck but the players got back to it as soon as restrictions were lifted.
The club bloomed and entered into the WFA cup. The Over-60s were knocked out early on, but our Over-50s made it all the way to the National Finals and were the North-West Champions.
Two years later, there are around 100 members.
More steps forward have been taken and the Over-50s have entered a league with other Walking Football Teams across the North-West. Due to the number of players we have the Over-50s split into two teams – the Whites and the Reds.
The Over-60s have joined the Greater Manchester Walking Football League.
From October 2022, a Women’s section was established.
In February 2022 we were ecstatic to be crowned the WFA Club of the Year 2021.
