More than $220,000 will be made available by the Cook Labor Government to 18 Western Australian organisations, including local governments, to implement age-friendly and positive ageing strategies.
Seniors and Ageing Minister Don Punch today announced the recipients of the State Government’s Age-friendly Communities Grants Program for 2022-2023.
The program fosters the development of age-friendly communities, where people are respected, feel safe and have opportunities for social, cultural and economic participation in community life as they age.
Eligible organisations were able to apply for grants to support age-friendly planning and implementation of community priorities and recommendations.
Among the funded projects was a monthly Wellness Caf in the cities of Melville and Canning, which received $13,600 to promote activities to enhance healthy ageing.
An adapted sports program in the South West received $12,400 for providing seniors an opportunity to try accessible sports such as walking football, tennis and softball, and a $7,800 grant was awarded to a digital connection program.
