We are delighted to launch a new Walking Football session in partnership with Parkinson’s and Neuro South West Region Walking Football.
All ages are welcome to the Wednesday sessions, with no football experience necessary. Coached by team Manager Caroline Pike, with the assistance of our 2022 ‘Coach of the Year’ Dan Hewitt, the sessions are planned to improve your mental health, build muscle strength, benefit balance and meet new friends.
Walking football is played at walking pace, with players not allowed to run. This includes with the ball or off the ball and includes jogging. You can ‘walk’ as fast as you want and walking is described in the rules as ‘one foot must be in contact with the ground at all times.’
One other difference to association or 5-a-side football it that it’s classed as non-contact sport. Although tackling is allowed, this must be done with no contact.
Sessions run from 11am to 12pm at Wonford Leisure Centre, with the fee at £5 per person with participants able to pay on the day. If you would like more information please contact parkinsonsswwalkingfc@aol.com
