PROJECT
As a team of players who have all undergone surgery, treatments and procedures for heart, cancer and stroke conditions we hope to inspire people who have been diagnosed and awaiting treatments to pursue an active lifestyle after recuperation. We demonstrate through the players that it is possible for the older generations who have procedures for heart and cancer conditions to be optimistic and believe in themselves and that an active lifestyle can still be achieved and to prove that they are still valuable member of society and to their local communities.
HISTORY
Having had open heart surgery and finding that I was not alone in still playing football, I met several others who had overcome adversity from serious medical conditions and thought how good it would be to show encouragement for people who have had or about to have procedures for the two main causes of death in the elderly. I approached the FA with the idea and was recommended to continue working at local level, it was explained that the FA could not officially support the idea or the use of the three lions badge due to the protection surrounding the symbol. The response to continue was all the encouragement I needed to see if it could work. Working with Community Trusts I found players from 4 Counties in the East Midlands who were eager to become part of a National Team with organisers in 3 other areas of England looking at the idea for their regions.
