Curly’s Walking Football is expanding its horizon with the launch a full league.

The league commences on March 7 and will initially feature three ten-member teams with organisers hoping to have at least six involved.

Matches will be held on Saturdays at Bermuda College and CedarBridge Academy from 9am until noon, and will involve men over 50 and women over 40, to be trained by league founder and match referee Leroy “Curly” Wilson.

“I will train new players until they are ready to join a team,” Wilson said in a statement. “Once teams are formed, each captain will work closely with their players.”

The former Dandy Town and Vasco da Gama player, and Wolves coach, is also recruiting referees of any age.

Wilson, who hopes to form a national team to represent the island in the 2027 FIFWA Walking Football World Nations Cup, thanked sponsors Polaris Holding Company Ltd for its ongoing support of his organisation.

Curly’s Walking Football - Bermuda football legend Clyde Best believes Curly's Walking Football team will benefit a lot from their first overseas tour when they head to England on Sunday. Speaking as the team, under the mentorship of Leroy Wilson, received sponsorship from Polaris Holding Company Ltd at Bermuda College on Saturday, the former West Ham United forward feels that this is an opportunity for players in Bermuda to gain exposure.

Played in more than 80 countries, walking football features similar rules to traditional football with key modifications, such as the prohibiting of running and physical contact. The ball must also remain below head height, while throw-ins have been replaced by kick‑ins.

These rules make the sport accessible to individuals seeking a low‑impact way to stay active, with no prior experience required.

Those interested in joining as a player or referee are urged to visit Bermuda College on Saturdays from 9am until noon, or contact Curly’s Walking Football on WhatsApp at 595‑8048.
